As a storyteller, writer, and children's literature advocate, Walter appears regularly at educator, storyteller, and book-related gatherings around the world. He has appeared at national conferences for the American Library Association (ALA), the International Reading Association (IRA), the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), and hundreds of state, regional, and local conferences. Walter is an accomplished speaker with a unique style of combining storytelling (most of his presentations are from books, designed to bring the experience of reading vividly to life) with his passionate defense of the importance of books and story in all our children's lives. Walter is enthusiastic, opinionated, knowledgeable, and energizing. Presentations can be formatted around a theme of your choice. He does not have a set program. Conference attendees are highly motivated after hearing him speak or spending time in one of his workshops.
